GreenIndustrialAreas
Co-elaboration of a transnational certification standard and of a tool-box to promote energy transition in green industrial areas

The project aims to elaborate and introduce a standard for the certification of green (aiming for climate-neutrality) industrial areas as means to promote the wide uptake of innovations to reduce CO2 emissions in industrial areas.
In order to meet the decarbonisation targets of the Baltic Sea Region, it is important to promote industrial investments in decentralised renewable energy production, smart energy management and full energetic exploitation of energy sources in industrial processes. Public authorities also have an important role in this transformation, as they are in a position to actively promote change through regulatory and green industrial planning measures. However, knowledge about available technological solutions especially involving smart tools is unevenly spread in the Baltic Sea Region, no transnational standard for the certification of such areas exists until today.
The GreenIndustrialAreas project therefore aims to elaborate and introduce a standard for the certification of green (aiming for climate-neutrality) industrial areas as means to promote the wide uptake of innovations to reduce CO2 emissions in industrial areas. The solutions developed in the project have the potential to positively impact energy transition as well as twin digital and energy innovation in industry and to leverage investments in smart local energy systems.
